I'm starting a new quilt top tonight. The pattern is Quill by Amy Ellis (@amyscreativeside).
The pattern has a warm (shown) and cool (blues and greens) version. Amy had a picture of the cool version on her Instagram, and I absolutely loved it and ordered the kit. While it looks complicated, I feel sure I can have the top pieced this weekend. The fabrics are Grunge by BasicGrey for Moda. I've been wanting to use these, so now I'm getting the chance. The throw size finishes at 56"x72". And it's mostly blue. Perfect.
I have the squares cut and am ready to start sewing. I'll post again when I have the top completed.
I've also got a top ready to send to the amazing Abby Latimer (@alatimer) for quilting.
I just love this quilt top. The pattern is Jellyroll Railway by Fat Quarter Shop, and the fabric Kona cotton.
I love winter and cold weather. I live in the complete wrong part of the country for that. It was 102° this afternoon. It makes me a little sad just to say that. Making Christmas quilts is therapy in this heat. I could have quilted it at the library, but since I'm limited to pretty basic FMQ there, I'm sending it to Abby because I want this one to be a little more special. I have this vision of my three sweet grandboys all snuggled under Christmas quilts waiting for Santa to visit in this awesome grandkids playroom that I don't have. Maybe someday.
I love the backing almost as much as I do the front, but I'll wait to show that until I get it back.
For now, I'll work on the Quill quilt. Have a great weekend!
Peace out,

A new blog, a new start
I have tried blogging before, but I'm monumentally terrible at it. I enjoy the writing, but I'm too uptight about it. I want to do a better job of cataloging my quilting and stitching, though, so I'm giving it another go. It's also a way to keep my photography skills up since I closed my portrait business last year. And it gives me a chance to just ramble about stuff I'm interested in.
I sincerely hate beginning new TV shows. I don't really have time or the emotional energy to become interested, and there are so few (in my opinion) that are worth exerting either that I just try to avoid it altogether. But even more than that, I don't want to actually make the decision to invest time and energy into a show to have it canceled just as I'm getting interested. That happened last spring with Fox's Houdini and Doyle.
It was smart and witty and fun. It was also well written and the ensemble was really good. And it was canceled after 10 episodes.
Instead of learning my lesson, I saw an ad for NBC's Timeless last fall and was intrigued by the concept.
It is smart and witty and fun. It is also well written with a terrific ensemble. It is also time travel. And history. And time travel. With a bad guy that may not be a bad guy. Or maybe he is. And maybe the government is corrupt. Yep. Imagine that. And time travel.
NBC has not announced whether or not the series will be given a second season. The Season 1 finale aired on Monday, and through most of the show it looked like they were wrapping all the storylines up neatly so that the series could end without any questions. Then the last five minutes happened. Now I am fully and completely invested and am campaigning for renewal for a most worthy story. Please, NBC. #renewtimeless
If you haven't yet watched this fantastic show, you can catch it on the NBC app on DirecTV and probably other places.
Here's some of the best news out there: Spring training began this week. Actually, pitchers and catchers reported last week. Position players reported Tuesday.
I love baseball. I love it more than chocolate. I pretty much love it more than any non-living thing on earth. Visiting Cooperstown is at the top of my bucket list. The very top. And I love my Texas Rangers. 2016 was a great season that ended suddenly and most disappointingly. 2017 is the year.
So, first post and nothing about any quilt or stitching project I'm currently working on. I'll try to do better in the future. Or I might write about a movie or a book or something chocolate. Probably baseball. Definitely baseball.
Actually, just putting something down is an accomplishment for me.
